So while the condition is often associated with adults, kids of any age can have bipolar disorder.?? Childhood-onset bipolar is associated with a more severe course of illness compared to people who don’t begin to experience symptoms until adulthood. Early intervention can be the key to getting symptoms under control.?? Even if you know an adult with bipolar disorderâ€"or you have been diagnosed with it yourselfâ€"it might not look the same in a teenager. Teens tend to be more irritable than elated during manic episodes and their depressive episodes may involve more complaints of physical symptoms other than sadness. When to Seek Help Children and adolescents with bipolar disorder experience severe mood and behavior changes that are extreme and represent a major change from their typical mood and behavior. It might be difficult to know when the symptoms are severe enough to warrant evaluation and, potentially, diagnosis, so consider these three basic factors: functioning, feeling, and family.?? Functioning Here are some questions to ask yourself about your childs functioning: Are the problem behaviors of your child interfering with his daily functioning?Is she able to play with other children her age?Is he able to attend school regularly?Do the demands of her difficulties outweigh the needs of other members of the family, maybe including you? Feeling Here are some questions to ask yourself about your childs feelings: Does your child feel like there is something wrong with him?Does she feel overwhelmed handling normal activities other kids her age engage in?Does your child worry about things other kids don’t even think about? Family Is there a history of mental illness in your child’s family? Research indicates that having  a parent or sibling who has bipolar disorder increases your childs chances of developing it, though this risk factor  may or may not be meaningful. Symptoms If youve said YES to questions in at least two of the three items above (functioning, feeling, and family), youre probably curious about the specific symptoms of bipolar disorder. Experts disagree about the exact symptoms that may appear in childhood and adolescent bipolar disorder because they appear to manifest differently than the symptoms of adults, but some of these symptoms may include:?? Schedule an appointment to  discuss your concerns. A physician may refer you to a mental health treatment provider for a complete evaluation. A mental health expert will likely want to interview you and your child  to get a full picture of the signs and symptoms. There isn’t a lab test that identifies bipolar disorder.?? Sometimes other conditions such as depression or ADHD  have similar presentations; so it’s important to offer as much information as you can about your child’s mood, sleep patterns, energy level, history, and behavior to help rule out other possibilities. Treatment Bipolar disorder must be managed throughout a person’s life.?? Treatment may require adjustments over time. Your teen’s treatment team may recommend: Medication:  A psychiatrist may prescribe  medication to stabilize your childs mood. It’s important to monitor your child’s medication and be on the lookout for side effects. Finding the right medication and the right dosage may take some time as there isn’t a single medication that works best for everyone with bipolar disorder.??Talk therapy:  A therapist may educate your child about bipolar and may offer coping strategies to help manage the symptoms.  Therapy  often includes family members. Family therapy may address relationship issues, behavior management problems, or strategies to help the entire family cope with a  childs  mental illness.?? A psychiatric hospitalization may be required at one time or another if a child  poses an acute safety risk. A serious suicide attempt, thoughts of suicide with a clear plan, self-injury, or psychosis are just a few of the possible reasons a child  with bipolar disorder may need to stay in a hospital.?? Treatment works best when the child, parents, doctors, therapists, and other treatment providers work together as a team. So it’s important to attend your teen’s appointments, ask questions, communicate with other treatment providers, and continue to educate yourself about your child’s mental health needs.?? A therapist or psychiatrist may request that you log your teen’s moods, sleep patterns, or behavior. Charting your childs progress can help treatment providers determine how well therapy or medications are working to keep your child’s moods stable.?? Keep an eye out for  substance abuse, such as drinking or taking drugs, as well as  suicidal behavior.?? Studies show that between 25 and 60% of adults with bipolar make at least one suicide attempt over the course of their lives and between 8 and 19% of individuals with bipolar disorder die from suicide.?? Research shows teens with both bipolar I and bipolar II are at an elevated risk for suicide. If your teen has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, take the risk of suicide seriously. Work with your teen’s treatment providers to assess your teen’s risks and to develop a safety plan. Co-Morbid Conditions Many children with bipolar disorder have an additional mental illness, addiction, or behavior disorder. Some research has  estimated that between 60 to 90% of youth with bipolar disorder may have  attention deficit hyperactivity disorder  as well.?? Anxiety disorders, substance use, and disruptive behavior disorders are among the other most common issues children  with bipolar disorder may experience.?? Support at School It’s important to work with your child’s school if he’s been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. School officials can assist with a plan that will best support your child’s education. Your child’s  academic needs will depend on his symptoms and his academic issues. If he exhibits behavior problems at school, the teachers may create a behavior plan that will use appropriate disciplinary action. If he struggles academically, the school may provide services to help ensure he  is able to get an education. The school may be able to offer things such as a modified schedule or a hall pass that lets your teen visit the guidance counselor whenever necessary. Encourage your child  to participate in meetings to talk about how the school could support his education as well. Support at Home Bipolar disorder affects the entire family so it’s important to work together to help your child  manage the symptoms. Learn as much as you can about bipolar disorder and the latest treatment optionsâ€"and make sure other family members learn about it too. It’s important for siblings to understand what to expect. Hold regular conversations with your child about treatment and treatment-related issues. There’s a good chance that at some point your child won’t want to take medication or attend therapy. Validate her feelings and talk about the importance of following doctors’ recommendations. It’s important to take care of yourself as well. Coping with the challenges of raising a child with bipolar disorder can be stressful. Consider joining a support group for parents with teens with bipolar disorder (or mental illness in general). Connecting with other parents may help you gain emotional support as well as practical advice about how to support your child. The Pollution of the Water There are a number of different ways and processes of water pollution the main ones are ‘waste disposal’, ‘organic pollution’ and ‘eutrophication’. Waste disposal is the domestic and industrial waste which is treated in sewage plants to remove impurities. The problem is that some of this waste is being disposed in many rivers and canals and polluting them heavily. This has destroyed many freshwater ecosystems like the ‘Great Lakes of North America’ and parts of the ‘Norfolk Broads’. Organic pollution is where domestic sewage is disposed in rivers and canals and the organic content in the sewage is a food source for bacteria and fungi. These organisms also take the dissolved oxygen in the water so that fish and other aquatic animals die out. Eutrophication is when the nitrate and phosphate levels are high this encourages the growth of algae. These algae can cause a lot of damage to the water ecosystem. * Algae grow rapidly and give an ‘algal bloom’ over the surface of the water. * Many blue-green algae produce toxins which kill some plants and animals. * Small animals that feed on algae do not multiply fast enough to check the increase in the algae. * Algae block out the light for the rooted plants growing on beds of lakes and they die. This reduces the amount of oxygen. * The algal population crashed due to competition for resources. The algae are then decomposed by bacteria which use the oxygen in the water. * This lack of oxygen kills many invertebrates and fish. All this is the process of eutrophication. The pollution of the atmosphere Pollution is a term used to describe the presence of an unwanted substance. Although air contains lots of microscopic particles, like volcanic dust and tiny sand grains from deserts, this pollution is natural in origin. Man-made pollution of the atmosphere however, is now causing a lot of concern. Most of this air pollution comes from the burning of coal, oil and gas – the fossil fuels – in power stations, factories and homes, and petrol and diesel in cars and other road vehicles. We need energy and electricity to keep us warm and to cook our food, but unfortunately we do not make enough from other non-polluting sources. Burning fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases into the air. This may be changing the climate and causing global warming. Other pollutants like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are also given off. This can reduce the quality of air which we breathe, leading to health problems, and can cause acid rain. Global Warming Global air temperatures as measured by land-based weather stations show an increase of about 0.45 degrees Celsius over the past century. These may be mistakes in data or climatic variation. Satellite data indicate a slight cooling in the climate in the last 18 years. These satellites use advanced technology and are not subject to the â€Å"heat island† effect around major cities that alters ground-based thermometers. Projections of future climate changes are uncertain. Although some computer models predict warming in the next century, these models are very limited. The effects of cloud formations, precipitation, the role of the oceans, or the sun, are still not well known and often inadequately represented in the climate models although all play a major role in determining our climate. Scientists who work on these models are quick to point out that they are far from perfect representations of reality, and are probably not advanced enough for direct use in policy implementation. Interestingly, as the computer climate models have become more sophisticated in recent years, the predicted increase in temperature has been lowered. However, 98% of total global greenhouse gas emissions are natural (mostly water vapour) and only 2% are from man-made sources. FATE OF MACBETH Essay Although Macbeth does take actions that lead to his downfall, I believe that he is nottotally responsible for what happens. Although he takes the actions, he would not have done thisif the witches had not told him that he would be king in Act I Scene iii. I believe that it is thewitches are more responsible for the downfall of Macbeth. The witches introduce Macbethssfate. At the beginning of the play they plan to meet with Macbeth and they say Fair is foul,and foul is fair, Hover through the fog and filthy air. This line shows foreshadowing; it makesthe audience know that something unfair and evil will occur. When they meet Macbeth, theygreet him first as Thane of Glamis, then as Thane of Cawdor and then as king. The momentMacbeth hears this, he is confused but curious why these witches had called him king. After heknows that he became Thane of Cawdor he believes that sooner or later he will be king. Thethree witches suggested his destiny. Macbeths goal was not to become king until the witchesmade him believe it was his destiny. In the play, Macbeths destiny was paved out by the witches. Destiny is not somethingthat can be changed. A person has control of his/her destiny. Macbeths destiny was suggested bythe witches, he listened to their suggestions and followed them. In Act I, Scene iii, the witches tell Macbeth that he is Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdorand that he shalt be king hereafter. Immediately after hearing the witches prophecies that hewill be king, Macbeth thinks that he must kill the current king to become king himself. I believethat before hearing the witchs prophecies, Macbeth had never in his wildest dreams thought ofkilling King Duncan to become king himself. In Act IV, Scene iii, Macbeth meets again with the witches, who tell him throughapparitions, Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff. Beware the Thane of Fife. In thefollowing scene, we see murderers sent by Macbeth enter Macduffs castle and slaughter bothLady Macduff and her son. The witches are also responsible for this murder, because once again,the witches put ideas in Macbeths head. Although the witches can be held responsible for themurder of King Duncan, Lady Macduff and her son, they cannot be held responsible for themurder of Banquo. The witches only speak of Banquo when Macbeth meets with them for thesecond time in Act IV, Scene i, after Banquo has already been killed. This murder is thecomplete responsibility of Macbeth, because the witches had absolutely nothing to do with it andit was only Macbeths own suspicions that brought him to have Banquo killed. If Macbeth hadnot taken action to fulfill the witchs prophecies, he would probably have been happily living asthe than e of Glamis and Cawdor at the end of the play. Macbeth is not controlled by fate; instead he is the one who decided to listen and wants tomeet the witches again. He thought about becoming king, but was not totally sure of it. His wifecontrolled him in the decisions he made so that these could benefit her, encouraging thisdecision. Macbeth controlled his life when he does not want to kill his king. After he talks toBanquo the day he was supposed to kill the king, destiny enters in his life.
